Perry was born July 25, 1968 in Chicago in Illinois. She was the daughter of Laurie Metcalf Perry and Jeff Perry. The role of Jackie Harris was played by her mom in both of the two shows she starred in on Roseanne. Her parents, however, did not permit her to perform until she turned an adult, for fear of the effects stress would be able to have on their daughter. Perry shy and timid to perform in the school, began to perform in the theater at Northwestern University because she wanted to make new acquaintances. Perry managed to get tiny TV roles on Law & Order: Criminal Intent after she graduated. However, her homesickness brought her back to California and she returned working on stage. In 2013, she appeared in The Other Place on Broadway along with her mother. Perry was in the show with their father Kevin McKidd and Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winning drama Anna Christie in 2015 on the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble, West Los Angeles. Perry appeared nine times in the ABC drama The Family, in 2016. In 2017, she starred in a recurring role on the ABC Political thriller Scandal with her father. In the same year, she appeared as a younger version of Mary Cooper on Young Sheldon (a CBS spinoff The Big Bang Theory) in which she played her mother in a younger version. She was cast in the role in spite of her strong familial connection to the character.
